Barcodes

Since its invention in 1950s barcodes have come a long way in tracking products and information. Barcode technology eliminates keyboard data entry, thereby increases accuracy and the flow of products and information.

The data, which can be alphabets or numbers, are encoded in white and black bars, hence the name Barcode. Different barcode symbologies are used for different applications. A barcode symbology is like a language or formula in which the encoding takes place. The most common one being UPCA, the type of barcode found on products.

A Barcode scanner decodes the barcode information and passes it onto the connected host computer or terminal.
